What is break-even?
Fixed costs must be paid no matter how much you sell: rent, permanent staff salaries, base electricity, equipment loan payments.
Variable costs rise and fall with the number of units sold: ingredients, packaging, per-order fees.
The break-even point is the sales volume at which revenue exactly covers all costs: no profit, no loss. Above it, each unit adds profit equal to its contribution margin.
Example: a coffee stall with fixed costs of Rp6,000,000/month, a price of Rp15,000 per cup and ingredients of Rp6,000 per cup. The margin is Rp9,000 per cup, so break-even = 6,000,000 / 9,000 = 667 cups per month, about 26 cups a day over 26 selling days.
